Therapy for expats in Barcelona: when life abroad starts to feel heavy

Moving abroad can expand your life. It can also unsettle identity, relationships, work rhythms and the quiet sense of belonging that usually supports us without being noticed.

Why expat life can make old questions louder

When you live away from your familiar language, family system and cultural codes, daily life often asks for more adaptation than people around you can see. Small things accumulate: explaining yourself, translating emotions, building new friendships, carrying professional pressure, parenting between cultures, or wondering who you are becoming.

Therapy offers a protected place to slow this down. The work is not about deciding whether you should stay or leave. It is about listening carefully to what your body, emotions and relationships are already showing.

What we may work on

  • anxiety, stress or persistent tension
  • loneliness, grief or loss of bearings
  • relationship patterns that repeat across contexts
  • burnout, workplace pressure or career transition
  • identity questions linked to language, culture and family roles

How the first step works

The first 30-minute conversation is free. It is a chance to describe what brings you here, ask practical questions, and sense whether the therapeutic frame feels right. Sessions can take place in Sant Cugat del Vallès or online.
